The Hut

Móstoles, 2019
The Sub21 collective, associated with the public activities of the Dos de Mayo Art Center in Móstoles, is made up of a group of young people from 16 to 21 years old interested in culture, art, and ways of life in a community whose interests focus on forms of experimental organization and the processes of collective creation.

For the design of a space intended for the celebration of their meetings and assemblies, we look at how popular culture has understood this type of space for socialization and the creation of youth identity through cinema. Films like “Lord of the Flies”, “Dead Poets Society”, or “Battle Royale”, show, not only the formation of youth groups, more or less naive, in different times or scenarios, but the fundamental role of architecture that these groups produce in the construction of their identities collective through (technologically mediated) contexts of inclusion or exclusion.

“The Hut” reproduces the structural system of a grocery store,  the characteristic image of constructive precariousness, and temporality in this type of movie, for its design. A perimeter metal mesh Tension is supported by a series of internal compression pillars. The outer skin using high-quality polyurethane foam Density ensures the tightness of the whole.

“The Hut” is the critical version (and festive) cave that the authors of the motto “carpe diem” popularized in the 80s. The incorporation of wheels at the base of the pavilion allows it to move throughout the entire museum facility, taking advantage of the large dimensions of your forklift. In the same way, you can move to the outside, taking the debates and collective activities to public spaces.
