SOMA

Barcelona, 2018
Soma is a light and spatial device that serves as a set design for the filming of the artist's video clip “Celestial” Somadamantina. Soma is basically a shadow box that allows the artist to be surrounded 360º by a white atmosphere while being recorded.

An exterior lighting system projects onto the inside the shadows created through embroidery in the shape of circles concentric. These shadows, seen from the inside, are reminiscent of the geometry of nebulae and galaxies, recurring concepts in the lyrics of the song, making coherent scenography, music, and performance of the artist.

The structure, in the shape of a sphere, maximizes the possibility of continuous shots without cuts while reinforcing the atmospheric character of the proposal regarding the letter. Only a small opening in the shape circle at the bottom of the sphere connects the interior and exterior.

Embroidery is made up of three main elements; knots of tulle fabric, dried floral elements, and polyurethane foam that goes interlacing, both to achieve a shadow effect of complex geometry inside, as an attractive image outside that will serve as a background for the art of the disk format. Finally, this embroidery is painted black creating a strong contrast with the interior and the white environment in search of the combination of hardness and delicacy that the artist demanded.

A second interior lighting, next to the exterior, allows three different lighting modes, thus increasing the possibilities of effects during filming; white atmosphere, shadow atmosphere, and Backlit atmosphere for outdoor still photos.
