Black Candy

Barcelona, 2017
Black Candy is an adaptable system and reusable display for young designers and craftsmen resulting from combining in a single design the organization of the flows and routes of the visitors in the room, the presentation of products, and the storage of these during the days of its use developed on the occasion of DesignMarket 2017.

Each of us relates to everyday objects in a different way, but what is transversal is the admiration and care that we show when we detect the exceptionality of an object. The project participates in this fascination and like a jewelry box, it is configured as a precise but soft element which, through an undulating geometry, is capable of resolving space in the shape of an “L” of the room. The black pleated textile enclosure works as a background neutral for the products, the fitting room spaces, as formal milestones that punctuate and give rhythm to the route, and the “pop-up” folding and deployment of horizontal surfaces (tables), solve the functional needs of this temporary micro-urbanism.

The system is made up of a succession of 109 wood frames 90 cm wide, flexible in its final formal configuration, and easily storable. Each one incorporates two systems of successive deployment using hinges, which resolve depending on the display needs (vertical elements only, or horizontal elements only, or both) the optimal configuration for each designer.

The fitting room spaces, next to the storage spaces, are configured as semi-openwork closed enclosures of rounded shapes that, in groups of 3 to 6 modules, are placed in the intersections of curve sections helping articulate the different steps that allow the journey around the system.
